Powerful Top Mounted Fan. Top mounted fan and 500 watts of drying power generate maximum speed and quality for dehydrating fruits, vegetables, and jerky. Helps dry food in hours, not days like other food dehydrators.
The FD-61 comes with 4 trays, but is expandable to 12 trays if you purchase Add-A-Trays® (LT-2GP). Trays are 13 1/2" in diameter. This unit also includes one fruit roll sheet (LSS-2).
Vita-Save® Exterior. Opaque Vita-Save® exterior helps block harmful light which destroys nutritional content of food being dehydrated.

I bought this for my wife. She dries all kinds of things, from flowers to fruit to fish. Before, she used the oven, which was very tricky, required constant attention, and still didn't always work. Then she tried another brand of dehydrator - one of the passive, stackable kind that you see advertised on TV all the time. That worked, but took days, and still required a lot of attention, and rotating of trays from top to bottom. Then I discovered the Nesco brand from Internet reviews. I picked up a Nesco American Harvest model FD-61 at Sears, and my wife loves it! Her first project was bananas. She doesn't slice bananas, she cuts them in half length-wise, and flattens them out. Big pieces that took up to 3 days on the other dehydrator. The Nesco dries them in 10 to 12 hours, and the dried bananas are nice, tanned, evenly dried, instead of nearly black leather, like from the other machine.
Wife loves it; I'm a hero! |

Thought about another 'kitchen toy' for a while before buying this....but it's been a great addition. I've used it for apples and bananas so far, and I'm looking forward to the opportunities to take advantage of the Farmer's Market next season.
You can hear it running, but it's not distracting. Used it in the kitchen so far, but now that I'm more confident I'll put it in the basement when it's in use. The aroma is more noticeable than the sound. Apples made the kitchen smell like apple pie was in the oven; bananans were ok. Bananas took much longer than apples, due to their texture.
It's important to follow the instructions to use a citrus juice or other agent to prevent browning of the sliced fruit while it's in process. A little lemon juice in a container of water was great for both; as I cut up the fruit, I dropped it into the solution until I was ready to load the trays.
Results are TASTY, and YOU control the extras that that you use - sugar, salt, cinnamon, etc
Ready to order more trays! |

| Great price, outstanding jerkey maker. Bought it just for jerkey. Saved about $19 dollars a batch. Use to pay $32 for a pound (is worth it was the best). Paid $13 for 3 lbs of flat steak. Now mine is the best. |
