Great price, outstanding jerkey maker. Bought it just for jerkey. Saved about $19 dollars a batch. Use to pay $32 for a pound (is worth it was the best). Paid $13 for 3 lbs of flat steak. Now mine is the best.

Thought about another ‘kitchen toy’ for a while before buying this….but it’s been a great addition. I’ve used it for apples and bananas so far, and I’m looking forward to the opportunities to take advantage of the Farmer’s Market next season. You can hear it running, but it’s not distracting. Used it in the kitchen so far, but now that I’m more confident I’ll put it in the basement when it’s in use. The aroma is more noticeable than the sound. Apples made the kitchen smell like apple pie was in the oven; bananans were ok. Bananas took much longer than apples, due to their texture. It’s important to follow the instructions to use a citrus juice or other agent to prevent browning of the sliced fruit while it’s in process. A little lemon juice in a container of water was great for both; as I cut up the fruit, I dropped it into the solution until I was ready to load the trays. Results are TASTY, and YOU control the extras that that you use – sugar, salt, cinnamon, etc Ready to order more trays!

I bought this for my wife. She dries all kinds of things, from flowers to fruit to fish. Before, she used the oven, which was very tricky, required constant attention, and still didn’t always work. Then she tried another brand of dehydrator – one of the passive, stackable kind that you see advertised on TV all the time. That worked, but took days, and still required a lot of attention, and rotating of trays from top to bottom. Then I discovered the Nesco brand from Internet reviews. I picked up a Nesco American Harvest model FD-61 at Sears, and my wife loves it! Her first project was bananas. She doesn’t slice bananas, she cuts them in half length-wise, and flattens them out. Big pieces that took up to 3 days on the other dehydrator. The Nesco dries them in 10 to 12 hours, and the dried bananas are nice, tanned, evenly dried, instead of nearly black leather, like from the other machine. Wife loves it; I’m a hero!

I have gone through my third one of these in 4 years. I use it during the summer months for herbs. At 60plus$ dollars a pop I think that I will be changing brands. Not a wise investment!!!

It’s too bad about the reviewer that gave one star. I could understand maybe getting one bad machine, but three in a row? I’ve had mine for over eighteen months and it’s been a real work horse producing large amounts of jerky, dried bananas, apples, raisins, and drying herbs. I’ve produced the odd batches of pineapple, pears, oranges, and sweet potato chips. I bought the machine primarily for making jerky treats for the household mutt. Store bought jerky is very expensive and is loaded with all sorts of ingredients that the dog doesn’t need. The jerky I make for him is super simple – one pound of 85% ground beef mixed with two pounds of ground turkey and NO additional ingredients. I load the jerky gun and use the smaller round tube nozzle. Granted the jerky isn’t all that tasty to the human palate, but the dog loves the stuff. Don’t just take my mutt’s “word” for it; the neighbor’s dog is a big fan, as well. As far as drying times go, the jerky and bananas are typically ready in about 8 hours. Apples are closer to 9 hours. Raisins are nearer to 20 to 24 hours even after blanching. The shortest drying time has been for sweet potato chips – five hours. I usually use 4 or 5 trays but bought an additional two trays and have used all seven at times and the results have been good every time. As far as clean-up goes, I run the trays through the dishwasher but always pull them out when the washer goes into the drying cycle – as recommended in the product manual. I figure the machine has easily paid for itself just making jerky. All in all, I’m very happy with the FD-61 and highly recommend it.

Works great to start but after using only about 15 times. The motor just stopped working. Very disappointed as I had just invested in extra fruit roll sheets and other accessories.

I got this little dehydrator for my birthday and I love that the temperatures are right on the lid. It makes use so easy even a dummy like me can figure it out! It dries fast, evenly, and is so easy to load, clean, and use. I got the one with a grey lid with the temps printed on it. American harvest I think. Anyway, I made my first jerky today. I have been buying jerky for 15 dollars a pound at sams club and this jerky cost me 4.00 a pound with seasoning and energy used to dry it. I can’t believe the savings I will have making my own! I ordered more spices and trays today. All I need now is one of those vaccumm sealers and I will be set for life!

I bought this in 2008. I’ve used it hundreds of times making jerky and kale chips. It’s never let me down. Instead of buying a bigger machine(this one only came with 4 trays),I’m just gonna purchase some extra trays. 5 stars all the way.

I have had the FD 60 & 61 for several years and I have to say these are the best dehydrators I have ever used. They both have worked over time during hunting season making jerky. I have 8 trays on both and I am thinking about getting 4 more trays for each. I have never and I mean never had any problems with either one. I would say 5 of 5 all day every day.

Bought this to try dehydrating our dog’s canned food. He is a rescue yorkie with inflammatory bowel disease. Wouldn’t eat the prescription kibble but would the canned, when he got really hungry. He was always trying to steal the other dog’s dry kibble. Thought if we could get his canned drier, he might start to eat more and gain back weight. This little machine has really done the trick. Ended up buying more jelly roll sheets to do larger batches. He loves his food now and the others are trying to sneak some of his!! Very , very happy with this purchase

I love Jerky and decided to buy this FD61. It does a great job drying my jerky and the original seasoning that came with it is really good as well. 10 batches so far, and its going strong. I also purchased several extra racks with it. The first batch had the house smelling like jerky, so i moved it to the outside patio and the wife is happy. I would recommend it to anyone. Also comes with fruit roll up trays so it is very versatile.
