My 1970’s manual grinder finally gave up the ghost when the suction pad deteriorated. I don’t regularly use the grinder so I was determined to not spend a lot of money on an electric replacement. After comparing grinders it became apparent to me that the price difference between a manual grinder and a mid range electric one wasn’t all that enormous, especially when I took into consideration the convenience factor. Of all the comparable units out there, I decided to go with the NESCO one because of the durability of my Garden Master dehydrator. Well, my FG-180 arrived yesterday, and today I was able to finish my grinding project. I can’t believe that I lived without this for so long! I was done in no time. I didn’t have to stop every few minutes to refill the hopper and my right arm doesn’t ache from manual grinding. When I did have to refill the hopper on the FG-180, I discovered that the power button is in a very convenient place; on top of the unit. It’s relatively quiet and a breeze to disassemble, clean and reassemble. I also appreciate the stainless steel plates and blade – unlike the mystery metal of my old grinder. Small things like the washers not coming off the auger and the storage compartment for the extras are a real plus, too. There are a couple features not mentioned in the product description that pleasantly surprised me. One is the red button on top. That is a switch to select low or high speed. The second is that it comes with a kebbe attachment. I have no idea what kebbe is, but I think I need to find out and make some!

I received my FG 180 as a gift. My FG 180 along with my Food Saver made it possible for me to turn 4 lbs of thick pork chops into 4 pounds of ground pork for pork-bacon cheese burgers and pork stir fry. Thanks to all of you at NESCO, I will put my FG 180 to work on 4-6 lbs of chicken.
